Thoughts

Over the years, Mum and Dad have played a huge part in fundraising for St Catherine’s Hospice by helping out at the annual plant sale in Turner’s Hill. They divided hostas, geraniums, day lilies and geums (to name but a few!) in the run-up to the sale in early May of each year, then were on hand throughout the day, setting up, selling plants and giving freely of their gardening advice to everyone who came. It seems a fitting tribute to my lovely Mum to ask for donations in her memory to this excellent local charity. Her illness developed too quickly for her to have time to move to palliative care in the hospice, but we’d like to think it would have been her preferred choice. Rest in peace, Mum - you were our rock and we’ll miss you each and every day. Much love xx

Thank you for setting up this tribute to Joan. We hope that you can use it as a place to celebrate Joan’s life, and that it provides comfort as a place to reflect and remember at any time, on any day, and for any reason.

I will always struggle to come to terms with the fact that Nanny is no longer with us. She had such a strong presence wherever she went, and was such an important part of mine and Izzy's lives, as well as the rest of our family's. She was, without a doubt, the strongest woman I have ever had the privilege of knowing, and I will be proud if I become even half as strong as she was. We are so lucky to have had as long as we did with her, and to have all of those memories captured in photographs is truly special. Nanny, I will love and miss you forever. You have been the biggest inspiration to me and have helped me through so much. You always supported me through every step of life and I hope I can make you proud. I am so grateful for all of our wonderful memories together: quoits in the garden in the summer, the excitement of homemade bread for breakfast whenever Izzy and I would come and stay, and the annual tradition where you would buy us a new Christmas bauble from Haskins every year. I have bought one for you this year, and I will always think of you when it's hung it on our tree. Rest well, Nanny - you were truly amazing.
